WESTERN AUSTRALIA AND MALAYSIA STUDENT INDUSTRY COLLABORATION EVENT

AMBCWA with sponsorship from the City of Perth held the Western Australia and Malaysia Student Industry Collaboration Event on 9th December 2020 at the City of Perth, Council House, 27 St Georges Terrace, Perth. The event featured discussions on opportunities for Malaysian students to engage with business. Malaysian students and business listened to Ahmad Fikri Zakian, Consul-General of Malaysia in Perth, Philip Payne, Chief Executive Officer, StudyPerth, Councillor Sandy Angie, Deputy Lord Mayor, City of Perth and Noel Chua, Chairperson, Malaysian Students’ Council of Australia (MASCA), Western Australia Chapter.

Speakers

  1. Ahmad Fikri Zakian, Consul-General of Malaysia and AMBCWA Patron
    Mr. Ahmad Fikri Zakian has served as a diplomatic officer at the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2008. Mr. Ahmad Fikri was Second Secretary at the High Commission of Malaysia in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh from 2012 until 2016. Mr. Ahmad Fikri assumed duties as Consul General for Malaysia in Perth on 9th January 2020.
  2. Phil Payne, Executive Director, StudyPerth
    Phil Payne is Executive Director, StudyPerth, which represents over sixty education institutions and is established as the peak body for the WA international education sector including all Western Australian universities. Prior to this role, Phil Payne was with Murdoch University for almost 12 years in roles that included support for international engagement and educational partnerships.
  3. Noel Chua, Chairperson of the Malaysian Students’ Council of Australia (MASCA)
    Noel Chua is the Chairperson of the Malaysian Students’ Council of Australia (MASCA) in Western Australia which is a student representative council. MASCA is driven by a team of highly enthusiastic and motivated students and aspires to build a strong and united Malaysian community in Australia while forging close relations with the Australian community. MASCA has seven chapters across six States and one Territory.
  4. Councillor Sandy Angie, Deputy Lord Mayor
    Councillor Sandy Angie is the Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Perth and has over 25 years’ professional experience as an architect, lawyer and accountant, serving on not-for-profit boards for the past decade. Councillor Angie has since 2016 been leading the Historic Heart project designed to bring together the Perth history of the urban environment, the community and natural environment in an area spanning from Barrack Street in the west to Hill Street in the east.
  5. Keith Anthonisz, President, Australia Malaysia Business Chamber WA
    Keith Anthonisz is the President of the Australia Malaysia Business Chamber WA and is also Principal Consultant, Future Systems, where he provides economic and strategic advice to clients based on 30+ years’ experience in government and in the private sector supporting economic development, technology development and infrastructure facilitation. Keith is also Manager with Incentives and Innovation at PwC and a Director of Malaysia Australia Connect.
