Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia in Perth with AMBCWA
On 9 June 2025, AMBCWA had the distinct honour of hosting Her Excellency Danielle Heinecke, the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, at a high‑level discussion in Perth. The event brought together government, business, and diplomatic leaders to explore and strengthen two‑way trade and investment between Western Australia and Malaysia. In her address, Ms Heinecke underscored Malaysia’s status as Australia’s second‑largest ASEAN trade partner (A$33 billion in 2023–24) and the immense potential arising from Malaysia’s role as chair of the 46th ASEAN Summit in May 2025.
Vice President Keith Anthonisz highlighted AMBCWA’s leadership in coordinating trade missions – such as the “Invest in WA – Unlocking Golden Opportunities” delegation to Kuala Lumpur in 2024 and the successful 2023 Sarawak business mission, as evidence of WA’s growing ASEAN connections. A Perth start‑up, Worth Drill, also presented its plans to partner in Malaysia, showcasing real‑world trade collaboration.
Hosted at Pitcher Partners by Managing Director Leon Mok, the gathering featured rich dialogue on emerging sectors including AI, digital economy, renewables, hydrogen, rare earths, and education links such as Curtin University’s partnerships in Sarawak. The successful event reaffirmed AMBCWA’s role in facilitating strategic business linkages and advancing WA’s engagement with the Malaysian market.
